Task 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

The difference between the two products was that the preliminary was not planned particularly well, whereas with STAC1E we spent a long time researching thrillers and looking at possible films that would attract a broad audience. The complications were enhanced with the full product in comparison to the preliminary task and this was noticed from the editing that was done in the opening sequence of our thriller.

PRELIMINARY TASK SCREEN SHOT:

STAC1E SCREEN SHOT
I found storyboarding for the thriller task quite difficult as we had to think beyond the preliminary task with the basic wide shots, close ups and extreme close ups and expand them to create a story with the different shots. Additionally, a key comparison in both was that for the preliminary task we used a pre-made storyboard and script, whereas with the full product we created it all ourselves and this was quite tricky to think of each shot that will happen.

We used a variety of shots in both sequence the main task shows our improveent in the understanding of the different shots. The screen shot above of the prelim task is my favourite, as it shows the shadow of Elly in order to emphasise that she is the one that holds the power. However, from the screen shot of the final project with the green screen shots inside the TV of a seperate shots and edited to look realistic it is evident in the progress in the use of the camera.

In the basic preliminary task, we didn't add any extra sound effects and only used the sound that could be heard over the camera's microphone: their voices, footsteps and the door closing. However, in the thriller task, we used SoundTrack Pro to create a specific atmosphere with different sound effects; a key way we did this was by placing a variety of different sounds together and experimenting with their levels-was particularly useful during the stabbing sequence where we combined sounds of food, swords and bangs to give the sense of the knife going through the body.

Within the main task we used FINAL CUT and AFTER EFFECTS to edit it and give a smoother effect on the story. We used AFTER EFFECTS to edit the green screen and to import it into the shots with the TV, using such methods as masking and motion tracking. FINAL CUT was used to edit the opening sequence as a whole and to juxtapose the different shots together and making sure that there is no jaggedness (unless necesarry) and to create a clear story that makes sense to the public. It contrasts with the preliminary task because we did not use any editing techniques whilst filming this and only placed the shots together in a simple and structured way.
